It is a formal process on how to manage information security effectively, identifying threats and minimising risks. Information security covers many issues from copyright to internet security, and the proprietary information an organisation has is now recognised as one of its main assets.

An Information Security Management System is a systematic approach to managing sensitive company information to ensure it remains secure. It includes people, processes and IT systems by applying a risk management process.
